He's getting so much attention because Republicans are pushing his candidacy as a spoiler to divide Democrats.

It became clear in 2016 that no amount of bad press, regardless of reason, was disqualifying for those candidates who can ring the right-wing drool bell. While there is a right-wing of the Democratic Party, it is minuscule in contrast to the Rs.

Don't want to scare you but there was a large group of his fans marching in our local July 4th parade. They had signs, buttons, big cutouts of his face.

I think the dynasty connection plus his (long history of) chaos are what is driving the coverage. The more coverage there is, the more opportunities for people to hear him/him to say things that are only ~95% conspiracy resulting in an increasing quantity (but still minimal #) of sound bites that may appeal to someone based on the 5%. I think one time he said something about the Catholic Church’s responsibility to be an instrument for kindness and justice in the world. This is something many people who are not conspiracy theorists would say they agree with, and perhaps lead to them listening to him for quite a bit longer than someone should.

I would also say that Kennedy-affiliated conspiracy theories aside, there are enough instances of genuinely bad, violent, dangerous behavior that one could argue it’s a family of another kind. Personally I don’t think we should be held responsible for the sins and bullshit of someone else based on family ties...but we shouldn’t be rewarded for those ties either.
